“When the roller blinds reflect the sun’s heat, they help reduce the building’s overall CO₂ emission by directly lowering its cooling cost.“
CPO / Ejvind Larsen Degn, Fischer

In Sydhavnen, Aarhus, stands TRÆ, an impressive timber construction which, at 78 metres and 20 storeys, can claim the title of Denmark's tallest of its kind. Built primarily from timber and incorporating a range of reused and upcycled materials, the building has a 30-50 % lower embodied carbon impact than a conventional concrete high-rise, according to a Life Cycle Assessment. Designed as a shared office space for a wide range of companies, TRÆ has numerous floors and varied requirements to accommodate.

This made the indoor environment a key consideration when selecting the solar shading: the amount of daylight entering the building and the control of solar heat load. The chosen solution was 462 automatic, motorised roller blinds from Fischer, featuring the right level of transparency. They allow daylight to enter while also reducing glare, ensuring that computer screens remain easy to see. The blinds were installed on every floor of the unique building, but only where they were necessary to optimise the indoor climate, namely, the sides most exposed to the sun.
